Christmas in the City 2017

CITC is an annual event to coincide with the lighting of the Christmas tree and the launch of Christmas shopping in Launceston Central City. Last year’s event attracted upward of 4000 people, with an emphasis on families. This year, Cityprom anticipate that the event will continue to grow with live entertainment, free children’s activities and a great range of food vendors to choose from. This is a chance for businesses to leverage off the increased foot traffic from the event and get into the Christmas spirit.

When: Friday 17th November

Time: 6pm – 9pm

Where: Charles Street (from York St to Paterson St)

Brisbane Street (the Brisbane St Mall to the Kingsway)

Would you like to participate in CITC?

If you would like to participate in this year’s event, click here to download a ‘participation template’ and return this completed to by Friday 3rd of November.

We strongly encourage business on Charles Street, Brisbane Street and the Kingway to come out on the streets, as this will greatly increase your success for the event. We would also recommend having a promotion for the night such a Christmas themed product offerings, meal deals or special offers.

This year we encourage retailers to come out onto the streets and feature their latest stock for Christmas gift ideas. You don’t require a permit to do so. Just notify us, so that we can include you in our infrastructure list for Council. This would also be a great chance to have product demonstrations for toys, technology or games.

If you would like to operate outside of your business, you must have your completed food permit to the City of Launceston 10 days prior to the event which is the 7th of November. However, we’d highly recommend getting it in before this in case CoL requires more information.

Click here to download a copy of the food permit.

NOTE: There will not be a liquor licence for this event. If you would like to service alcohol at your premise and don’t have a liquor licence, head to the Liquor and Gaming website for application information.

Reporting Inappropriate Behaviour

In recent weeks Cityprom and City of Launceston have received a number of reports from concerned staff and visitors in the City with regard to religious  activities in the Brisbane St Mall. Council advise they are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible with a positive outcome. In the meantime, Council has provided the following suggestions, should this issue impact  you, your staff and/or customers:

  1.  A phone call is appropriate if there is a particular activity or behaviour happening that you think requires the attention of Council Officers, this can be done by  telephoning Council’s Service Desk on 63 23 3000.  Due to the high volume of calls at this time of year, you may experience a slight delay reaching a staff member. If this happens you can select the 'call back' option which reserves your place in the queue.  You will be called backed by the next available staff member.
  2. To allow Council to respond to these complaints, it is helpful if they are in writing. You can use the Incident Template to record the relevant details and return via email to:

Make sure you include the following:

  • Full Name and location of your business.
  • Details of what you saw and heard and the date and time.
  • Details of any other witnesses including their contact details.

Alternatively, you can contact Cityprom to arrange collection and delivery of your incident report.
