The Community Festival for Peace will this year take place from 10th – 12th July in Launceston. This venture provides the local community the chance to share and express what peace means to them as both individuals and groups. Peace is not solely defined by the conflicts of wars, but the behaviours of individuals and groups, with purpose of the Festival being to rejoice the roles of art, diversity, education and sport in developing community unity and kindness.
An addition to the Festival a Peace Garden will be created in Royal Park to deliver a peaceful space for the local community. The festival is purely about offering local groups a way in which to bring to the community their own peace themed happenings and events under the Festival umbrella.
We have already seen some great peace installations around the city including the below project named ‘Pathway to Peace’ which is a assortment of works produced by students in Pep, Grade 1 and Grade 5 from Glen Dhu Primary in partnership with the Global Education Program at the University of Tasmania. These peace themed pieces of artwork can be found in Ingles Lane, just off the Quadrant Mall and they will be displayed until they wear away.
Also keep an eye on local businesses who, this week, will be displaying what peace means to them in their stores and shop fronts for the duration of the festival.
